Dysmorphia

Film, 2021

This digital theatre presentation was a semi-autobiographical exploration of Vic's battle with Body Dysmorphic Disorder, a mental health condition where a person spends a lot of time worrying about flaws in their appearance. This condition is most common in teenagers and young adults as a response to the overemphasis of, and increasingly unrealistic expectations placed on physical appearances in a hyper-visual world. Vic and filmmaker Sean Harrison collaborated on this project and played with green screens, caricatures, filters and face swaps. The result is an off-kilter, uncomfortable discussion about the realities of a young woman's struggle, and how one's best friend and worst enemy come from the same place––the mind.

"Apt, well thought out and executed considering the pandemic, in experimenting with virtual alternatives."
